Who We Are

Our vision: a world without breast cancer. Komen for the Cure began in 1982. Across the country, Komen's vision is upheld by a network of 122 local Affiliate offices. The Puget Sound Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure was founded in 1992 by CJ Taylor and a group of community volunteers, all of whom shared a vision of ending breast cancer forever. The first Race for the Cure was held in the fall of 1994 with 3,000 participants and raised $56,000. Following that first Race, the Puget Sound Affiliate awarded its first grants totaling $42,000. In June of 1994, the 16th annual Race for the Cure had 14,000 participants and raised more than $1.7 million. Since its inception, the Puget Sound Affiliate has awarded more than $20 million to local non profit organizations serving underserved women in our community providing breast cancer education, screening, and treatment support.

What We Do

Susan G. Komen is the global leader of the breast cancer movement, having invested nearly $1.5 billion since inception in 1982. As the world?s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists, we?re working together to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Thanks to events like the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure®, and generous contributions from our partners, sponsors and fellow supporters, we have become the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.
