Who We Are
The Center's mission is to inspire exploration, discovery, and stewardship of the natural world through science education and other direct experiences that promote healthy, sustainable communities. The state office was founded in 1981 in partnership with our 26 local Audubon chapters. We conduct scientific research, educate at our Audubon Center, guide visitors along the Great Washington State Birding Trail, and advocate for sustainable conservation policy in partnership with other environmental and community groups to protect Washington?s clean air and water, and healthy habitat. We focus on the Pacific flyway with 74 Important Bird Areas of 1,553,905 hectares and 15 distinct habitat types in Washington State.
What We Do
The Seward Park Environmental & Audubon Center is part of national Audubon's vision to make conservation the path to a better future by building a constituency as diverse as nature to help protect nature. The Center is a partnership between National Audubon Society and the City of Seattle, Department of Parks & Recreation. Through the Center, we engage all kinds of people in learning about and caring for the nature that matters most to them - the nature in their own neighborhood.
