Who We Are

Pilchuck Glass School inspires creativity, transforms individuals and builds community. Founded in 1971 by glass artist Dale Chihuly and patrons Anne Gould Hauberg and John H. Hauberg, Pilchuck Glass School has been a primary force in the evolution of glass as a means of artistic expression. By creating an environment with a singular focus on glass, access to resources, and an ever-expanding international community of artists, Pilchuck has become the largest, most comprehensive educational center in the world for artists working in glass.

What We Do

Located north of Seattle, Pilchuck?s serene campus surrounded by forest is made up of footpaths connecting rustic housing to a central lodge and studios equipped for glassblowing, hot-glass sculpting, hot casting and kiln casting, coldworking, flameworking, neon, fusing, glass painting, stained glass, printmaking, woodworking and metalworking. Pilchuck is an ideal artistic retreat for shared creative experiences, reflection, inspiration, and learning. Since 1971, Pilchuck has drawn artists from all over the world making it unrivaled in its intensity and concentration of talent. Participating in a summer session is an opportunity to learn about glass from accomplished instructors while living and working in a supportive community. Demonstrations, discussion, evening presentations, and working alongside professional artists are all part of the Pilchuck transformative experience. Pilchuck artists, aged eighteen to eighty-five, arrive with ideas, sketchbooks, curiosity, excitement and expectations and quickly discover creative resources in students, instructors, artists in residence, teaching and artist?s assistants, crafts persons in residence, and artists on staff. Everyone will come away with new skills, new friends, and a new world of opportunity open to them.
