LifeWire’s mission is to end domestic violence by changing individual, institutional and societal beliefs, attitudes and behaviors that perpetuate it. Domestic violence is a human rights issue. We envision a world in which every person lives in a safe environment, free from oppression and with the opportunity to thrive.
LifeWire is a nationally recognized leader and the largest comprehensive domestic violence service provider in the State of Washington. For 38 years, LifeWire has provided safety, life-changing programs and supportive services to more than 148,000 survivors and their children. Through housing, advocacy, counseling and outreach programs, we assist families who have experienced physical, emotional or sexual abuse and works to prevent domestic violence through community prevention education. We strive to change the culture that tolerates domestic violence while assisting survivors in healing and becoming self-sufficient.
LifeWire opened its doors as an all-volunteer crisis line in 1982 under the name Eastside Domestic Violence Program and became LifeWire in 2012 to reflect better our innovative and broader services. Today, LifeWire offers survivor-driven, trauma informed services, promotes prevention through community-based initiatives, and leads through pioneering strategies and partnerships. Our housing services are models in the state and nation, known for their innovative design, cost effectiveness and responsiveness to the varied needs of participants. As a result, survivors are able to find safety, attend to their basic needs, rebuild their lives, and become independent.
LifeWire is dedicated to being accessible, inclusive, relevant and responsive to DV survivors’ needs; we continually assess our services to meet changing needs and incorporate best practices.
LifeWire has a history of serving those individuals who experience the most difficulty in accessing agencies with high barriers to services and those who are the most marginalized in our community, particularly immigrants, those living with chronic health or chemical dependency concerns, people of color, those living in poverty, and members of the LGBTQ community.
An 17 member board of directors governs LifeWire. We employ 38 full-time and 2 part-time staff and are supported by nearly 350 volunteers each year.
