Who We Are

The Community Habitat Restoration Project (CHRP) promotes land stewardship to create a healthy environment by restoring our existing open areas back to native habitat. Our volunteers salvage native plants from areas slated for development, remove invasive species, plant native plants, and provide community education on native plant gardening. Lake Washington Christian Church purchased the church property in April 2009. The property was very overgrown with invasive species that threaten the streams and trees, and provide no habitat for birds and animals. Over the last 5 years, dedicated volunteers along with annual assistance from United Way Day of Caring have removed most of the invasive species. We have teamed with Earthcorps and King Conservation District, who have done extensive plantings of native flora. Our project is restoring this property for the well being of the Kirkland community.

What We Do

Lake Washington Christian Church has an one acre wetland on its property. This wetland has three streams, numerous springs, and mature trees. The CHRP project is restoring this property back to its natural state by removing the invasive species and replanting with native plants. It is a beautiful open space that will provide habitat for birds and animals and recreation for community members.
