Who We Are

Our Mission: To surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. Communities In Schools of Federal Way was established in 1994 and began as the Education Foundation, a non-profit education program of the Federal Way Chamber of Commerce. In 2005 the Foundation partnered with Communities In Schools to create an even stronger organization in our community to help children improve their literacy skills. Over this period we have reached thousands of children and families through funding programs offered by our public and private schools and non profit agencies. It is our belief that healthy, thriving communities have a responsibility to educate their citizens.

What We Do

Communities In Schools helps children achieve early academic success by meeting needs that might otherwise get overlooked. We work closely with school districts and social service agencies to solve problems that have a serious impact on a child's chances for success. The help we provide can be as simple as providing eyeglasses or shoes to a child in need or as intensive as one-on-one mentoring - our approach is individualized to the child. One way volunteers are vital to our program is by being a mentor to student who is on the "brink of success!"
