What We Do

DEAF SPOTLIGHT PRESENTS During odd years, Deaf Spotlight will present a theatrical production or a festival featuring works written by Deaf playwrights. Deaf Spotlight will hire Deaf directors and Deaf cast to bring the story onto the stage. Not only that, the technical and backstage crew will be hired to support the production. We are in process of planning a theatrical festival for spring 2019. We will offer two free playwriting workshops this fall/winter. Come back for more details! We are now seeking for 10 minutes plays by Deaf/HH playwrights now to January 31, 2019. Read our guidelines. SEATTLE DEAF FILM FESTIVAL During even years, Deaf Spotlight will host the Seattle Deaf Film Festival. Deaf Spotlight believes in cultivating a vibrant community of emerging and experienced Deaf filmmakers, actors, and producers; and welcome any filmmakers from the Deaf community to participate. Deaf Spotlight hosted the 4th Seattle Deaf Film Festival (SDFF) in Seattle, WA from March 30 - April 1, 2018 at Northwest Film Forum. During this three-day festival, the community had the opportunity to see various short and feature films by members of your own community! CREATIVE ARTS CAMP Deaf Spotlight will offer an annual arts day camp during summer. This is for youth ages 8-13 who are Deaf, Hard of hearing, or Children of Deaf Adults (KODAs). Deaf artists will provide a hands-on exploration of a rich variety of artistic mediums in a well-supervised and Deaf-friendly environment. 20 spaces available. The day camp took place at Youngstown Cultural Arts Center from July 16 - 20, 2018. The campers had a chance to learn from signing/Deaf instructors in painting, illustration, photography and theater. This was our third time hosting an arts-related camp for youth. GROUP ART EXHIBITION Deaf Spotlight hosted a successful group art exhibition featuring the Pacific Northwest Deaf artists' work from February 23 - 25, 2018 at Magnuson Park Gallery. We are now planning for another group exhibition in spring 2019.
