Who We Are

The Green River Coalition is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to do hands-on riparian restoration and also to collaborate with government units, other nonprofit organizations, community groups, municipalities, educational institutions and other agencies to protect and enhance the Green/Duwamish River watershed.

What We Do

We lead restoration efforts on streambanks and riparian zones along the Green River. Our current projects involve (1) removing invasive plants without chemical herbicides and replacing them with native species at our sites, (2) environmental education to students and landowners, (3) conducting outreach to streamside landowners to encourage them to cooperate in providing land for buffers to improve riparian conditions, (4) Implementing and growing our internship program at Green River College which gives students hands-on experience in riparian revitalization and (5) public outreach and stewardship support regarding streambank restoration and water quality improvement in the Green/Duwamish River watershed. In previous years, GRC has been instrumental in facilitating land acquisitions for restoration areas and for future development into King County parks, King County habitat/open space (Natural Areas), and State Parks. We also continue to refine and implement best available science to our restoration projects, with particular emphasis on organic, rather than chemical, eradication of invasive species, as an optimum approach to our restoration work.
