GLA is a community drop in center, providing essential services for people experiencing homelessness. We offer laundry facilities, showers, a community kitchen, internet and phone, resource referrals, food, personal storage, blankets and clothes, and the opportunity to just ‘be’ in a safe and secure place.
With limited volunteer support during the pandemic, we have a considerable amount of deferred maintenance. We are embarking on a major MLK Weekend Refresh, broken into 3 parts: deep cleaning inside; repairing and painting interior walls; and sprucing up outside with cleanup and landscaping.
This posting is for Group 1 - doing an initial deep clean of GLA - cleaning walls, corners, cabinets, and making the space clean, safe, welcoming, and shining with dignity for the people who use it.
Each group activity will include learning and discussion about the legacy of Dr. King, and how systemic racism results in the disproportionate impact of homelessness and housing instability experienced by people of color, particularly Black Americans.
We will provide all supplies. Please bring a re-usable water bottle.
