Come help FareStart harvest produce at Carnation Farms!
FareStart’s Food Security Team works with local partners to support our food rescue and access initiatives. From our local growers, we glean any goods that are seconds, in excess, or that they would like to donate. This product will be used at our Mobile Community Markets to provide local, nutritious food to communities experiencing food insecurity and will be incorporated into our Community and School Meals.
Carnation Farms is a community-based hub for regenerative food and agriculture that educates and empowers the work of culinary, food, and farming professionals. They aspire to help create a thriving regional food system connecting farmers and culinary professionals around shared values of regenerative food, health and equity.
For those new to gleaning, gleaning is:
- The act of harvesting or collecting unused or surplus produce from farms and distributing it to those experiencing food insecurity
- Traditionally defined as gathering anything left over after a harvest
This is a Family Friendly volunteer opportunity, open to ages 5-15yrs with a guardian, 16-17yrs with signed parental permission.
After the Glean you are invited to enjoy the onsite Farm Stand, open 11am-5:30pm daily.
After signing up for this shift a FareStart staff member will reach out with directions and more information.
