Description

Research shows that strong reading skills help students to be most successful in school and in life. Students who are reading at grade level by the 3rd grade are four times more likely to stay in school. Today, many students in Seattle struggle to reach grade level standards in reading. Unfortunately, this has created a significant achievement gap in our community. The City of Seattle and Northgate Time Commitment: ? Volunteers need to commit to at least one Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday each week for an entire session 2:00-5:00PM. ? Fall session runs through Thursday, December 15th. We ask that volunteers continue through the entire session. Skills and Qualifications: ? Must be consistent, flexible, and patient. ? Able to read fluently and with comprehension. ? Some understanding of diverse cultural and social/economic backgrounds. ? Effective in engaging students, able to adjust to different learning and behavioral needs. ? Must be able to complete background checks. Directions: Seattle Public Schools
