Description

Ronald Commons operates as both a transitional housing and permanent affordable housing property. As those in this program are welcome to live here permanently, one of the main focuses of our staff in this location is building a sense of community. The garden at Ronald Commons has helped immensely with this and we are hoping to expand it now. Volunteers will be building new raised garden beds and filling them with dirt -- essentially preparing them for the spring months.   Before beginning our building project, we will be hosting a brief orientation that goes over the racial disparity within the homeless population within Seattle and the nation at large. We will also discuss other common misconceptions about this population and the barriers they face on their path to housing stability.  With this conversation we hope to educate volunteers on what this population faces on a daily basis and how they can help - with advocacy and volunteerism.

Building shelves and organizing donations + a deep clean of the community spaces will round out our day at Ronald Commons.
