This year, Casa Latina will be celebrating Martin Luther King Jr Day by highlighting afrodescendant people, history, and culture within our Latinx urban migrant community. A speaker from the Garifuna organization Garinagu HounGa will present about Garifuna history, culture, and community in the United States, also featuring a Garifuna cultural dance. We will share a typical Garifuna breakfast of pan de coco y cafe (coconut bread and coffee) and have the opportunity to discuss cultural diversity within the Latinx community amongst members and staff.
Volunteer responsibilities include setting up materials for the event, plating and serving breakfast, and cleaning up after the event.
