WHAT IS MAKING CONNECTIONS?

Making Connections is a college readiness program that serves high school students (especially girls) from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds in the Seattle area. The Making Connections program encourages these students to pursue higher education, assists them with the college application process, and exposes them to careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) and other fields. The program supports students through individual academic advising, tutoring, and mentoring. Mentors are an important component of Making Connections because they offer guidance, support, and motivation to students in achieving their highest aspirations.

Making Connections seeks individuals who will:

  • Dedicate 4-6 hours a month to meeting with their mentee
  • Attend 1 mentor training session and quarterly mentor/mentee group social events
  • Provide college, career, and personal support to their mentee
  • Be at least 18 years old, enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program, or working professionally by the start of mentoring
  • Create a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere, and have fun!
