Join Tilth Alliance staff for a Day of Caring volunteer opportunity at Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Wetlands! Volunteers will be working either in the learning farm or in the wetlands and nature trail areas. Some volunteers will support the learning farm through planting, weeding, harvesting, and other farm and garden maintenance, while others will help restore the wetlands and natural areas by removing invasive species and helping to maintain trails. Other projects may include cleaning and sharpening tools and organizing storage areas in the greenhouse. We will plan to work from 10am-noon and break for lunch around noon.
What to bring and wear: Dress for the weather, including sun and rain protection. Dress comfortably in clothes that are okay to get dirty, long pants, and closed-toe shoes. Bring a water bottle to refill on site.
Additional information: Tools and gloves will be provided; you are welcome to bring your own garden or work gloves if you'd prefer. We work with people of all ages and abilities; light duty projects will be available as needed.
Lunch options: All volunteers are welcome to either join in a prepared lunch on the farm, or to bring their own lunches to enjoy on site. Every Friday at noon, a group of East African Elders who work on wetland restoration and farm stewardship at RBUFW prepare a lunch to share. It is typically a vegan or vegetarian Ethiopian meal. Volunteers are welcome to join in. The Elders request a $6 donation per person to cover food costs. Please RSVP to volunteer@tilthalliance.org if your group would like to join in so the Elders are sure to prepare enough food.
