Help pack fresh produce for our community while also supporting local farmers! Tilth Alliance's Good Food Bag program sources organic produce from local farmers during the growing season and distributes it to seniors, preschoolers and their families, and customers who wouldn't otherwise have access to affordable produce.
On Tuesdays, volunteers weigh and sort a variety of fresh vegetables, fruits, and herbs. On Wednesdays, volunteers bag up the produce, add recipe cards, and prepare bags for delivery.
Bags are distributed through local preschools and the Meals on Wheels program. As many as 800 bags are distributed each week! Join in yourself, bring a friend or two, or plan a volunteer opportunity for your team.
Some perks: Listen to music, pack bags, learn about our local food system, and soak in the bounty brought in by local farmers. Volunteers sometimes go home with surplus or less-than-perfect (but perfectly good) produce.
Regular weekly or biweekly volunteers are greatly appreciated, but "drop-in" volunteers for a service learning day are welcome to sign up for a single shift. If you are interested in bringing a group to volunteer, we can accommodate up to 8 volunteers per shift.
Open shifts are Tuesdays, 2-4pm & 5-7pm and Wednesdays, 10am-12pm & 12-2pm. Volunteers for United Way of King County's MLK Day of Service are welcome to join in on Wednesday, January 15, Tuesday, January 21, or Wednesday, January 22.
