Deliver Summer Meals to Children at Rainier Vista (Columbia City)

Expired

Description

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, nearly 100,000 low-income students in King County relied on free or reduced-price meals during the school year. Recent evidence indicates that the rate of food insecurity in households with children present has increased to 34.5% as of April 2020. As a result, more and more families struggle to put food on the table for their children. United Way is partnering with Seattle Public Schools to provide meals for more than 250 children at Seattle Housing Authority apartment complexes.

We need your help to deliver Summer Meals to homebound children at Rainier Vista. As a meals volunteer, you will pick up meals from your site address, drive with the meals to a family’s home, and deliver the meals on the doorstep through no-contact delivery. We provide PPE (masks and gloves) for all volunteers, provide on-site training and guidance while practicing social distancing at all times on site.

United Way of King County uses a third-party vendor, Sterling Volunteers, to process background checks for volunteers. Our background check is a nationwide 7-year criminal history check as well as a check of the National Sex Offender database. Criminal convictions such as DUI or Reckless Driving will not disqualify someone from volunteering. We are looking for sex offenders or those who have recent convictions that involve harm or threat of harm to an individual(s). A background check is required for this volunteer position and will be performed by the United Way of King County.
