MLK Day Rally and March Peacekeeper volunteers work in teams to ensure the rally and march are peaceful and safe for all participants. This includes helping participants to maintain social-distancing, wear masks, and other safety precautions related to COVID-19.
Volunteers are strongly encouraged to attend a virtual training prior to volunteering:
*Training date and time TBD - likely on January 16 or 17, exact time and date TBD.
Your Volunteer Supervisor will contact you with additional information about the training, which reviews what the day looks like, communications protocols, and other important details. If you or your group is unable to attend the training contact your volunteer supervisor (you'll receive contact information in early January.)
Volunteers must show proof of vaccination upon check-in - volunteer check-in and verification will be available starting at 9:00 am if you want to avoid lines.
Volunteers will:
- Be dispersed strategically at rally and help ensure community safety
- Assemble and direct marchers immediately following the rally at starting point
- Guide and manage crowds from Garfield to the end-point for a brief program
- Help marchers access buses and/or continue marching to return to Garfield
- Ensure communication with march leaders if any issues arise during the rally and/or march
