Description

Please note that these volunteer projects help serve the needs of our community organizations and the volunteer capacity is set to serve that. If you need to cancel your commitment to a project, please cancel at least 48 hours in advance.

Join us on May 13 for a monthly volunteer opportunity to support the Free Summer Meals Program, ran by United Way of King County. UWKC is working to address food insecurity in our community, which we know is disproportionately experience by BIPOC households due to historic and systemic racism, and is an especially urgent problem as we face the sunsetting of federally funded programs for economic recovery and increasing cost of living. The Food Security team falls broadly into two categories - Feeding Our Community, where we invest in and support the emergency food system to scale innovative strategies to provide dignified and equitable access to culturally specific, nutritious food, and Ending Childhood Hunger, where we work to increase access to sustainable, federally funded child nutrition programs like School Meals, Afterschool and Summer Meals, and Basic Food (SNAP), which have historically been under-utilized by kids and families due to systemic access barriers.

  • Volunteers will be preparing and packaging outreach materials so that our school districts and community partners can get the word out about free summer meals in our community. This will help raise awareness for families to know when and where they can access free summer meals while school is out.

This opportunity is for young professionals. By participating you will receive similar opportunities emailed to you bimonthly. Each opportunity supports United Way of King County's mission to create racially just communities where all people have homes, students graduate, and families are financially stable.
