Description

Magnuson P-Patch has twelve waist-high wooden garden boxes designated for gardeners with disabilities. We have a wait list for gardeners requesting these boxes. We'll be building two additional boxes in the same area. If time permits, we'll also replace one or more existing boxes.

For this project, we’ll be using hand tools to assemble and install wooden garden boxes, filling the boxes with soil, and preparing them for spring planting. These boxes will greatly enhance the ability of our gardeners with mobility challenges to enjoy a garden plot at waist level.

The boxes are 10 feet long, four feet wide, and three feet tall, constructed of 2x6 cedar boards and 4x4 posts.

The main project is from 9 am to 1 pm, but volunteers wanting to stay longer can work until 4 pm.

Magnuson P-Patch will provide all materials, tools, refreshments, and supplies. And plenty of really strong French roast!

Get Connected Icon Q: How will you raise awareness of - and reflect on - the role of racial and social justice within the volunteer project?
A: These boxes will greatly enhance the access to healthy recreation for disabled and elderly people, to improve social participation by underserved groups. As part of the project, we take time to discuss the legacy of Dr. King and how each of us can seek solutions to ongoing social challenges.
Get Connected Icon Volunteers should be between the ages of 10 and 99.
