Come help FareStart harvest produce at Sound Sustainable Farms!
FareStart’s Food Security Team works with local partners to support our food rescue and access initiatives. From our local growers, we glean any goods that are seconds, in excess, or that they would like to donate. This product will be used at our Mobile Community Markets to provide local, nutritious food to communities experiencing food insecurity and will be incorporated into our Community and School Meals.
Sound Sustainable Farms was created by Cedar Grove to utilize compost and organic practices to renew the land and grow fresh food for our local community. They are committed to farming organically, enhancing the land by adding compost and nutrients, providing educational opportunities for the community, and providing local jobs for farmers.
For those new to gleaning, gleaning is:
- The act of harvesting or collecting unused or surplus produce from farms and distributing it to those experiencing food insecurity
- Traditionally defined as gathering anything left over after a harvest
This is a Family Friendly volunteer opportunity, open to ages 5-15yrs with a guardian, 16-17yrs with signed parental permission.
