GLA is a community drop in center, providing essential services for people experiencing homelessness. We offer laundry facilities, showers, a community kitchen, internet and phone, resource referrals, food, personal storage, blankets and clothes, and the opportunity to just ‘be’ in a safe and secure place.
With limited volunteer support during the pandemic, we have a considerable amount of deferred maintenance. We are embarking on a major MLK Weekend Refresh, broken into 3 parts: deep cleaning inside; repairing and painting interior walls; and sprucing up outside with cleanup and landscaping.
This posting is for Group 2 - After Group 1 does an initial deep clean, Group 2 will ready the space for painting! Volunteers will patch/repair walls with spackle, tape, lay dropcloth, and prime.
Each group activity will include learning and discussion about the legacy of Dr. King, and how systemic racism results in the disproportionate impact of homelessness and housing instability experienced by people of color, particularly Black Americans.
We will provide all supplies. Please wear clothes appropriate for painting in and bring a re-usable water bottle.
